Into the Heart of Minx's Lair

November 16th, afternoon in the year 670 by Kingdom reckoning

The battle is over. You stop and look around, worried that the noise of your fight has alerted someone but a tense moment later and you hear no horns of battle nor horses.

The big bearded man carried a fine halberd and wore chain mail, he also carried 1 gp, 15 sp and a small ruby in a pouch on his belt. In his shirt pocket you find 6 fine cigars.

The other bandits carried short bows, short swords and wore leather armor. All told you find another 10 gp, 2 sp in random coins on their persons.

For the encounter you receive 350 xp total for the party.

(Looting the bodies takes perhaps 5 minutes if everyone helps so we'll begin play 5 minutes after the battle and I'll have you post your further actions.)

  1. The group loots the bodies as quickly as possible and hides them with the others at the edge of the woods. With Dolgi and Draymun scouting the path Shade and Rayla fall in behind them followed by Jul and Hamish. Thor and the bear form a rear guard. Shade sends the raven overhead to scout out the way hoping he'll sound an alarm if he sees anyone coming their way. Dray and Dolgi lead the group carefully around brush, stepping carefully over downed logs and around trees. Making as little noise as possible they follow a path parallel to the road.

  2. Harken! The Raven caws before flying off.

  3. Looting the bodies, hiding them and stashing the loot takes 10 minutes.

It's a tense several minutes as you make your way through the brush as silently as you can. Every twig snap is met with a sharp intake of breath and an intense moment of waiting and listening. Dolgi and Draymun do their best to skirt the dense forest and keep to the lightly wooded area while still providing decent cover. It's slow going but you make it 60 feet (24.07 on the previous map) before you hear muffled shouting. You don't see anyone yet.

(I rolled to see how fast their reaction was and you got 15 minutes.)

    1. Rayla casts guidance on each party member and loads her heavy crossbow.
((The creature gets a +1 competence bonus on a single attack roll, saving throw, or skill check. It must choose to use the bonus before making the roll to which it applies.))

    2. Noted. Everyone else has 7 rounds to act based on casting Guidance on each party member and the bear. If you wish to receive Rayla's blessing, you have to stay close or talk her into moving each round she casts.

Also remember, casting spells usually has a verbal component. She's not shouting, but someone who comes very close has a chance to detect you even if you're standing still. The chanting or prayer Rayla is doing I mean.

    3. (She's whispering her prayer/chant very, very quietly. Just so you know.)

  4. Quietly and swiftly the comrades spread out along the edge of the treeline, hunkering down to await the appearance of the bandits.

    1. You hear shouting, orders and replies. A horn rings out.

      But you see no one.

The raven circles overhead, nearly out of sight through the trees. No alarm.

The camp, or where you believe the camp to be, grows quiet.

      You see no one.

      How long do you wait?

  5. The party pauses only long enough to gather their breath, catch up their weapons and steel themselves for the battle ahead.

Shade touches the scroll case at his side and looks up to see that the raven is still on watch.

Seeing that his chance for revenge is drawing closer, Thor quenches down the rage that is building up inside of him.

Dray rubs the bear with affection and whispers in his ear words that only the two of them can understand. Nodding to Dolgi the two move toward the nearest group of bandits as quietly as they can. The others drop into their places behind.
