Underground, The Webbed Hall

August 29, in the year 670 by Kingdom reckoning. Approximately 10:30 AM

The party encounters no trouble making its way back to the intersection discovered by Tom and Kring. As Caris turns left and down the webbed hallway she catches a whiff of fresh air coming through the open door in the foyer.

No traps present themselves to Caris' searching eyes as the party makes its way slowly down the hallway. The webs are thick and growing thicker and while the Dwarves are mostly spared, the taller members of the party are constantly stopping to wipe clumps of web out of their eyes and hair. More than once Tom's torch catches a wisp of web on fire and the husks of dead bugs break the silence, crackling in the heat.

After 30 feet, the webs have grown almost thick enough to obscure all vision beyond 10 feet. Caris walks with one hand on the wall and swipes her short sword ahead of her to cut through the thickening cloak of webs. At 40 feet from the intersection, Caris stops short as the wall stops and the hallway opens into what you assume to be a room. However, the webs are so thick and choking, you can only currently see 5 feet ahead of you in any direction.

There is no sound to be heard except a scuttling at the edge of your hearing. It may be your imagination playing tricks on you.

Draymun cringes as a small, shiny black spider drops from the ceiling onto the back of Krings neck.

What will the party do?

129 comments:

  1. Caris works hard to repress a shudder as she tries to peer through the wall of webs. "Maybe we can use the torch to burn off the webs before we enter the room, or just continue on?" she suggests. As she waits for the others to respond, she tries to determine if the scuttling noises are an inbound threat or products of her imagination. She looks around her, wondering who in this party she can trust

  2. Torch them, no reason to get all sticky. Any big nasty spiders in here already know we are here. I, for one, am tired of waiting on things to attack us, let's be aggressive and wipe this place clean.

    ReplyDelete
  3. (Ok, any other actions before they start burning the webs? Who's helping burn the webs? Are you entering the room?)

    ReplyDelete
  4. "Tom pass forth any jugs of oil you may have left, we can open them and let Caris roll them into the room before us, with a lit torch we can light up the room, burn any webs off the ground and maybe scare the beasts from coming forth.... Once we do so we should move quickly and as a group to enter the room and spread out, standing in this hallway we limit our strengths. When everyone has prepared spell and steel and Tom has provided the fuel our new friends can pass the signal to enter the chamber."

    ReplyDelete
  5. (How many jugs total are you putting into the room? I ask because that will determine how long the fire burns for.)

    ReplyDelete
  6. ((Are we talking about the oil-flasks people have in their inventory or are these something entirely different? Just wondering, because Dwos may contribute to clearing this room faster as he has no intention of remaining in this pit for another century))

    ReplyDelete
  7. (Yeah, flasks of oil.)

By the way, can I get a Fort save from Kring?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Caris falls back and readies her bow

    ReplyDelete
  9. ((I have 2 flasks of oil left and 1 torch, plus the one in my hand))

    ReplyDelete
  10. ((Is the spider that landed on and is biting Kring natural? It was shiny, but would I be able to tell if it's normal or not with my Druid-y ways?))

    ReplyDelete
  11. It's a regular every day black widow spider. He had me roll fort over e-mail and he did get bitten.

Kring yelps in pain and grabs the back of his neck as a welt begins to form.

    ReplyDelete
  12. ((I'm unfamiliar with half-orc stuff: do they have any more natural resistance to, uh, dying from a Black Widow bite?))

    ReplyDelete
  13. (Barbarians have a naturally high Fort save, sadly he rolled a 1. Mechanically there's an extremely low chance he'll die, but he'll take a strength penalty for a couple of days. He gets 4 chances to save and if he fails he takes 1d2 str penalty each time. So right now, he's down 2 Str.)

    ReplyDelete
  14. ((Okay, good. Was afraid we'd have to go all Benny Hill trying to rush him back to a healer. Here's the music to go with that visual: http://youtu.be/MK6TXMsvgQg))

Draymun assumes a defensive position in the rear as the group begins to enter and expand into the room, facing the hallway from whence they came, in an effort to avoid surprises from behind.

"Looks clear back here, now's as good a time as any if you plan on doing something up there!"

    ReplyDelete
  15. Kring, looking quite pissed, "burn this place to the ground."

    ReplyDelete
  16. (Looks like the team is behind Kheldru's suggestion.)

You toss a couple of molotov oil flasks and there is a satisfying gout of flame that bursts forth in the room when they hit the floor. There is much screeching and popping as dozens of spiders fall out of the webs and die in the flames. It takes 4 minutes, but the room is mostly cleared of spider webs when you hear a clatter and a crash and a skeleton that was obviously suspended in the webs falls to the floor and begins smoldering.

The room itself is small, only 15 by 15 and is now littered in the corpses of spiders the size of Kring's fist.

(You all gain 150 xp for cleverly avoiding a fight.)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Now that we are thorugh here, lets get moving. I want it of this place.

    ReplyDelete
  18. There is another exit. Directly ahead is another hallway like the one you're in.

Also, in the center of the room, near the charred body, is a large hole in the floor.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Dwos approaches the large hole and leaning over the edge, he holds his torch in the hole and looks around.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Caris cautiously approaches the edge of the hole and peers down. "What were you expecting to find, Dwos?" she asks. Caris then turns her attention to the skeleton lying on the floor. "Who do you think this was?" she remarks to the rest of the group "and why was he down here?"
Caris can smell fresh air mixed in with the smell of the dungeon and odor of burnt webs. Her preference is to exit the dungeon and escape from the others long enough to think. 'Maybe there will be a stream where I can bathe 100 years of dust of me and figure out how I am complete my quest' she thinks. She looks around at the rest of the party and wonders if she should tell them about the scrolls and if they would help her. Sighing because she cannot decide, Caris determins she won't make any decisions about whom to trust until more is reveled about her companions thru their actions.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Kheldru scans the area for anything of value, especially focusing on the skeleton, seeing if there is anything left on it besides the bones.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The hole is deep, much deeper than the 20 feet your torch can illuminate. It is rough hewn and full of webs.

It is a Dwarf skeleton. It is wearing a suit of finely wrought mail armor and has a scroll case around it's shoulder. Whatever cloak or tabard it wore has burned off.

    ReplyDelete
  23. (Is Caris allowed to open the scroll case and read whatever it contains? Lol, just call me Pandora)

    ReplyDelete
  24. ((Sounds fine to me. Have at it!))

    ReplyDelete
  25. Tom examines the dwarf's armor closely.

    ReplyDelete
  26. You can open the scroll case. There is one Arcane scroll of Silent Image. There are also several sheaves of paper that are written in the same ancient Dwarven dialect as the runes in the foyer.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The Dwarfs armor is chain mail made of flat rings and riveted. Obviously dwarven, obviously old.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Caris holds out the scrolls and asks"Can any of you read this?"

    ReplyDelete
  29. (Just to keep things rolling. Someone who had Knowledge History might be able to. As would someone who could cast Comprehend Languages. Other than that, no.)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Dwos forgets the hole and walks past the rest of the party. He set his bag on the floor and began taking the armor off the skeleton, discarding it on the floor. Once the skeleton was clean, Dwos packed it in his sack.

    ReplyDelete
  31. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  32. "Might be we want to flush that hole with the last of your vials there Tom. Let it be cleansed by flame, lest the mother of these beasts decides to come up it. We have cleared behind us, Caris can you stand at the entrance to the dark tunnel and train your bow on anything that moves? Kring I will need your strength, I plan on going in this hole and I don't want the fella holding the rope to be dropping me." With that Kheldru begins slipping off his armor and tossing it into his pack, setting the pack with Tom and placing the potions beside it that they had taken from the beast in the other room. Then he dons the Dwarven chain mail, flexing the gauntlets and stretching to ensure that it had the maneuverability he would need. Checking his own brewed potions, Kheldru notes he has 2 heal pots and 1 enlarge person. Wishing once more that he hadn't wasted all of his Bombs and his mutagen, Kheldru prepares himself for what is to come.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Caris moves to the door and readies her bow. She looks back at Dwos, catches his eye and makes a silent plea that he watch her back

    ReplyDelete
  34. Dwos takes two flasks of oil from his pack and moves back to the hole. He holds the flasks over the hole and motions for Tom to light them.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Tom lights the two flasks of oil and Dwos drops them down the hole.

It is a breath before you hear them hit something and Dwos can see the bottom of a 20 foot hole illuminated for a short time, well enough to see the hole turns at the bottom and runs parallel to the floor off to the West.

If Kheldru is ready, we'll begin his venture down the passage over e-mail to keep some suspense.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Kring, you feel a sharp tug on the rope you're holding and then it goes slack.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Can anyone near the hole make a d20 + the higher of Int or Wis.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I rolled an 8. I think my int is -16, so that sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  39. ((I rolled a 13, my modifiers are both +3, so that's a 16))

    ReplyDelete
  40. Caris is by the door so she hears nothing. Neither do Draymun, Tom nor Kring. I'll e-mail what Dwos hears.

    ReplyDelete
  41. "Kring," Dwos said turning to the orc, "the little bearded one was calling for your help. He said he had some treasure that was too big for him to carry himself. You better climb down and lend a hand."

    ReplyDelete
  42. Caris squints into the dark hallway, but isn't sure if anything is out there or not. "Whatever you guys are doing, may I suggest you increase your speed? There may still be a village near here with an inn, hot food and some ale....."

    ReplyDelete
  43. "I've spent the past few days in a dark pit. I'm not looking to put myself voluntarily BACK INTO A DARK PIT. If he needs help, one of you go. I'll hold the rope and make sure you can get back up."

    ReplyDelete
  44. "What the hell, Rangers lead the way." Tom begins to climb down the rope.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Tom pauses as his head is even with the floor. As he looks up to Kring, "Make sure you remember this, if something goes poorly."

    ReplyDelete
  46. (Caris will if someone else will watch the door........what fun!)

    ReplyDelete
  47. "Hold, Ranger," Dwos said grabbing Tom by the arm. "You appear weak and sickly and that hole might be the death of you. I lied about what the Dwarf in the hole said. I wanted to see what the ugly one would do," Dwos said, pointing at Kring. "It appears he fears something as small as a little hole in the ground. But I'd prefer to head down the hole myself. There may be artifacts of great power down there, and I haven't found what I came here for yet."

    ReplyDelete
  48. Since there's some discussion, before we go any further, I'd like for everyone but Kheldru to roll initiative so I know how fast you're responding.

    ReplyDelete
  49. ((The potions on the floor next to Kheldru's pack, none are healing potions, right?))

    ReplyDelete
  50. ((Also, I never responded about the rope, are we assuming I gave it to him?))

    ReplyDelete
  51. (You'll have to check the blog or ask Kevin if any are healing.

We are assuming he was using your rope.)

    ReplyDelete
  52. ((15+3 = 18))

((there is one potion left, plus the purple which was Hide from Undead, 2 Cure - 1 used on me to make me awake))

    ReplyDelete
  53. (If I did this right, I rolled a 20 and add my +4 from dexterity for a grand total of 24)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ok, we're going into initiative order to make things easier to track.

Caris, Tom, Kring, Dwos. I'll add Draymun when he reports in and we'll move on.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Caris is up, then Tom. Remember, if you want to pass, just tell me who you'd like to be after.

    ReplyDelete
  56. ((Both potions left behind were healing potions Pie. Also someone push Ryan off a cliff.))

    ReplyDelete
  57. Caris leaves the entryway and walks over to the pit. Without looking at anyone directly, she quietly says "I know we have not known each other long enough to have fully taken anyone's full measure, but Dwos has been true to me so far. Might we not set aside our differences until we are in a more reasonable situation?" As she prepares to climb down the rope by stowing her weapon and arrows, and retightens the strays on her pack, she adds "I have a set of gaming dice in my pack, if there is anything of value down there, I suggest we roll to determine ownership". Caris, being a young elf and slightly drunk with excitement and adventure, cannot keep from smiling as she grasps the rope and starts climbing down. She didn't remember to tell the rest that she had translated the arcane scroll.......

    ReplyDelete
  58. ((yup, my inane humor has reared its ugly head))

    ReplyDelete
  59. Kring holds tight to the rope, already liking the elf Caris better than his other new counterparts. And if this goes badly, he is in need of a new set of gaming dice.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Tom glances at the rope and then glances at Dwos. "I guess you are asking me to trust you, after you admit to lying to me? I guess you are trusting that Kring and I won't just let the rope go, leave this place and head off to the inn for some food and ale? Well, see I don't trust you. Hells, not sure I trust anyone but maybe Kring here. The dwarf in the hole, ran away when I was fighting that huge plant thing. So the question is, can we work together to get through this place, find the treasure and things we were sent to get and get out? I guess you just have to take your chances." Tom shrugs and pulls his bow out and readies to defend Kring and the rope.

    ReplyDelete
  61. ((Since Dwos and Draymun have a tie score, I'll just go ahead since I'm not really changing much here...))

"This needless quarreling is giving me a mighty thirst for ale. No one here has shown a reason to distrust, and if we get sealed in I fear we're all the company we'll have for the next century. Enough with the bickering, our cooperation achieves everyone's goals."

    Turning to Caris:

"Be safe, elf. Should something befall you down there, I pray you yell louder than Kheldru..."

He flashes a hearty smile before moving to take up the sentry position at the back of the room, his shield at the ready.

    ReplyDelete
  62. ((Is there anything to secure the rope too? Or if there is trouble and all are needed, does someone have to stay and man the rope?))

    ReplyDelete
  63. (Good call Josh.)

Given the description of the room, probably not. You might be able to rig something in the doorway but no, there isn't a hook in the floor.

No one has to man the rope, but if you want a rope to climb out with you'll have to do something. One person could climb back out by hand, but it would take time.

You've posted Kring's turn already so you can figure it out next round.

Just waiting so see if Dwos goes down.

    ReplyDelete
  64. (Dwos mentioned earlier that he was going down the hole so we'll move on and if he changes his mind that's ok.)

Caris you drop onto the ground and have to move forward a bit to let the rest of your party follow. It's a dark dirt and stone hole, unsupported like a man made hole might be. The passage goes 10 feet west and then turns 45 degrees to the south.

We're at the top of the initiative order.

    1. ((As I really can't post from work, I'd appreciate it if we can wait at least til the evening before we skip turns. I know we want to keep things moving, but I don't think an extra 8 hours is too much. This is the first thing I check when I get home, and if I'm going to be absent for a time, I'll let you guys know in advance.

To confirm, I did want to head down the hole as well. As a quick recap, Kheldru and Caris are down there right now and everyone else is staying up top?))

      Delete
  65. Caris decides to keep going forward, curious to see what is around the bend. It is not ideal conditions for her treasured bow, so she takes out her knife. "Come on gentlemen, let us see what this has in store for us!" Secretly, she hopes there is a minor obstacle that would require them to work together to solve, in hopes that they might find a sense of camaraderie "but not a spider" she whispers to herself.

    ReplyDelete
  66. How far do you go? If you're going past the corner, I'll describe what you see and let you decide if you want to go further.

    ReplyDelete
  67. ((So wait, who's gone down? Dwos stopped me, so are we talking Caris, Dwos and Kheldru? Kring has the rope, Draymun is guarding one door and me the other.))

    ReplyDelete
  68. (Sorry Ryan, I usually wait to give everyone an evening to post. In this case I didn't feel like I was skipping your turn so much as pushing ahead while giving you a trivial option to stay or go without affecting the next turn at all.

Yes, that's what I've got as well: Caris and Dwos going into the hole, Kring holding the rope and Draymun and Tom guarding the unexplored hall and Kring, respectively.)

    ReplyDelete
  69. You turn the corner and see another 10 foot path that widens into a large room. In the doorway, you see Kheldru, enlarged and covered in webs, crouching down. Behind him, obscured by his enlarged size, is a huge black widow spider, easily 5 feet tall at her head.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Caris moves forward and steps into the room, pulling out her bow and notching an arrow, trying to get a clear shot at the spider while not hitting Kheldru. "If you don't want me to have all the fun, you might wish to advance - or simply advance and watch me in battle!" Caris yells "We may wish to summon the others as well" . She is able to loose one (1) arrow towards the spider

    ReplyDelete
  71. I assume you're stepping further down the hallway? The room is blocked by both Kheldru and the Spider.

I need a to hit roll for your attack. For a ranged attack that would be d20 + Base Attack + Dex Mod.

    It's Tom's turn and then Kheldru's.

    ReplyDelete
  72. ((Was the yell loud enough to be heard upstairs? If not, pass until Dwos relays the message.))

    ReplyDelete
  73. (I rolled.)

Tom and Kring hear her yell.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Tom hears Caris yell, "Well hells. I better get down there. Kring, those green potions are healing potions, in case you need them. Remember the loot is in Kheldru's pack, so if things go horrible, get out with the treasure, at least." Tom climbs down the rope and equips his longbow once on the bottom.

    ReplyDelete
  75. (I rolled 15 plus dex mod of +4 for a total of 19)

    ReplyDelete
  76. You hit, what's your damage?

Since Tom's climbing down and readying his bow behind Dwos, it's Kheldru's turn.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Kheldru can hear his companions headed down the hole, slowly.... Too slowly.... Figures that Kheldru would risk his life for ungrateful fools who can't even be bothered to help when things get rough. Struggling against the webs binding him in place was getting to be more and more difficult and now the spider had even tried to poison. Reflecting on his choices, he realizes that had he brought the treasure they would have been more apt to come when he called. No matter, it's not as if living to complain about it was going to be a possibility. Could it be that they truly had had such difficultly with hearing him? He was far underground... But no, they should have been waiting for his call... Someone must have heard and ignored the call... Whoever it was... Kheldru vowed he would find out, he was a master of poisons after all.... The sound of an arrow in flight broke his incessant inner monologue with the thunderclap of an arrow sinking deep into the carapace of the slider, it reared slightly back as if in pain before settling back on its forelimbs and fixing its beady eyes on the source of the arrow... It must be the elf! She's the one with the bow... Kheldru wonders for the millionth time why he didn't ask her to accompany him into this pit... "Right, to build trust..." he mutters to himself.... "The only thing I did was give them a reason to leave with the loot.... Mwahahahahha...." Slightly unbalanced by the stress of the situation, the fear, his body fighting off the poison and the blood loss, Kheldru becomes the picture of a raving madman, pulling back his sword he swings as best he can with bound arms at the creature before him to try and draw its aggression back to him. "You cheap, lying, no good, rotten, lowlife, snake-licking, dirty, inbreed, overstuffed, ignorant, bloodsucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-assed, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spineless, worm-headed, sack of monkey shit!" Kheldru puts his weight behind the swing and continues cursing.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Kheldru's explosive rage puts him off balance and the great sword swing goes wide over the spider's head.

She draws back and bites at Kheldru again. She hits and Kheldru feels the poison on her fangs seeping into his bloodstream.

    (23 to hit, 1 + 6 = 7 damage and I need another Fort save.)

    ReplyDelete
  79. (Kehldru makes his save again, the poison doesn't take effect.)

    Draymun then Dwos' turn.

    ReplyDelete
  80. "Let me take the rope, I'm sure they could use some help down there. You go chop something up, and I'll make sure everyone can climb out at the end."

Draymun offers his hand to Kring so that he may pass off the rope and descend into the cavern below.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Dwos moves down the hall to the bend, where he saw Caris and whatever Kheldru was supposed to be. 'Those concoctions sure don't do anything to improve his visage,' Dwos thought to himself. As he observed, he could see that the dwarf-giant was unconscious.

"This won't do," Dwos muttered to himself. "I can't really have all of my minions getting themselves killed." He hurried down the hall to where the oaf had wedged himself and placed his left hand upon Kheldru's back.

"Curarent lux vulnera in tactus," Dwos spoke the ancient words as he felt the flow of power from his hand into the unconscious dwarf.

    ((I casted Cure Light Wounds. I rolled [1d8: 5 + 1/lvl = 6]))

    ReplyDelete
  82. The heal stabilizes kheldru but I believe he is stilll unconscious.

    Caris is up, then Tom.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Caris takes a quick peek behind her when she hears Dwos muttering and then turns her attention back to the spider, satisfied he is doing the dwarf no harm. She moves further into the chamber to get a better angle with her bow. "If he is muttering about 'minions' again I am going to tie him up and throw him in the first deep well I find. Why can he not remember that my ears are not just estitically pleasing, they always hear his demented mumbling" she gasps out between arrow shots. "I have told that short little man before about the likelihood of me being anyone's minion".
(I rolled a 4 to see if I hit the spider)

    ReplyDelete
  84. (You really can't enter the room with Dwos, an enlarged Kheldru and the giant spider between you and the entrance. Either way, you miss the spider.)

    ReplyDelete
  85. ((Can I see the spider from the bottom of the rope, or do I need to move before engaging?))

    ReplyDelete
  86. ((I think it's down a hallway and around a corner))

    ReplyDelete
  87. ((I am up and about after Ryan's heal, (at 2 pts) we are down a hall and around a bend, you can get within range in a move or so. I'm rooted in place by dual web blasts and am enlarged still although it should be ending soon. The spider has only been hit once by my reckoning so it's probably only a quarter dead or so. I have reduced ability to hit because of the webs so I probably will be just a meat shield in this fight.))

    1. (Could one of us cut through the webs with a sword or knife without damaging you?)

      Delete
    2. To break the webs, you just have make a Strength check (d20 + Str mod) of 25.

You can also cut it but considering spider webs are about as strong as steel, it would take a while.

      Delete
    3. (With a str mod of +3, it is beyond my ability)

  88. The tunnel from the hole you guys came down to the spider's warren looks like an upside down V. The spider is in the room, Kheldru is in the doorway, Dwos is behind him, Caris is in view of the spider but as far back as she can be so there's one space between Caris and Dwos.

    Things are getting tight again.

You can move through your own party members without trouble but you can't end your move in one of their spaces. If you want to try to force your way past the spider, she'll get a chance to attack you.

    ReplyDelete
  89. ((how far from the spider is the space I can end at?))

    ReplyDelete
  90. Tom rushes down the hall to the sounds of battle, sliding past Caris, Tom pulls back on his bow and fires an arrow at the spider. ((Attack roll 9 +5 +1 = 15. In case I hit 6 +1 = 7)

    ReplyDelete
  91. You hit.

Kringe and Kheldru go at the same time.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Kheldru, still unsteady on his feet reaches to his belt and grabs his flask. Tilting it back Kheldru feels renewed life course through his veins. ((Rolled a 3+1=4, at 6 HPs)) Gathering his remaining strength he throws his weight behind a desperate stab. ((Rolled 19, -4 = 15. 19 with a longsword is a critical, but I don't know if the penalties apply before or after. My longsword functions as a Large weapon while I an enlarged so that's 2d6 rather than its 1d8, so I rolled 3 and 5. Sam will have to tell whether kept not I did all of that correctly.m, and whether or not it's a miss.))

    ReplyDelete
  93. It's a complicated turn so we'll have to go through it step by step.

First, if you drink a potion or extract when threatened by an enemy, you provoke an attack of opportunity. The reasoning being that as you uncork and tip the liquid up, you lower your defenses.

That 19 will threaten a critical but you'll have to make another to-hit roll to confirm the critical. Otherwise, it's a regular hit.

You rolled the damage right and if your next roll hits, you'll do double damage. If you crit again, you'll do triple and so forth.

But, if you do drink the potion, the spider gets to attack you. Since I'm sure that rule probably didn't occur to you, I'll give you the choice of letting your turn stand and risk being knocked out again before you can swing or taking a different action.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Kheldru has elected by e-mail to attack first and then imbibe his extract.

With a mighty swing, fueled by fear and rage, Kheldru connects with the spider and does 20 points of damage! It has taken 33 points of damage and looks very wounded. The spider staggers but when Kheldru drinks his potion it sees an opening and attacks again, doing 9 points of damage in return. (Attack of opportunity.)

This drops Kheldru unconscious yet again.

Then the spider takes its turn. It bites the unconscious Kheldru in the neck and does 10 points of damage. Then, it scurries up the wall and out of view.

    Kring's turn.

  95. Your character is dead at negative 10 hp. I believe you're at negative 13? I dout at first level you can afford a resurrect spell.

You can start rolling up another character by email.

I'm sure your party will ensure Kheldru's name lives forever in song. That, or his corpse fights forever as a minion of Dwos.

  96. Dwos smells the stench of death upon the fleeing spider and advances for the kill, drawing his buckler and the Skull of Dwos, he moves forward into the arachnid's room. Coming to a halt in the centre of the of the room, Dwos holds his shield in a defensive position and raises the unholy skull above his head, calling out "Evocent luceat ex tenebris umbra!" As the relic begins to glow, Dwos scans the walls of the room for the spider.

((Dwos casts Light on his Divine Focus, unless that's not doable, then let me know and I'll edit this to reflect it was his shield))

  97. Light on the unholy symbol is fine.

The spider is hanging from the ceiling near the door.

  98. Caris, grieving for the loss of Kheldru and determined to avenge him, follows Dwos into the room. Her bow is at the ready and she scans the area for the spider. When she sees it on the ceiling, she yells "Dwos, there it is! Help me destroy it!" and starts shooting arrows

(I rolled a 5 to determine if I hit the spider)

  99. Following Caris and Dwos in the quest to finish off the spider, Tom steps into the room and sees the spider as Caris points it out, sighting down his arrow, Tom pulls back on the bowstring, grim determination on his face as he settles his arrow on the center mass of the spider. Releasing the arrow it streaks directly into its target. ((18 +5 +1(in case I am within 30 feet) Sure that's a hit, unless the spider activated it's belt of invulnerability.. Hit 7 +1 (again assuming less than 30 feet) = 8))

  100. Tom's arrow strikes true and after the massive blow delivered by Kheldru, the spider is overwhelmed. It crumples and as it's legs unstick from the web, it wilts and falls to the ground at Tom's feet.

Everyone who participated in the combat (and survived) receives a share of 800 xp. By my count that's Dwos, Caris and Tom, correct?

  101. Tom searches around the room for more enemies and perhaps a way out that doesn't involve the hole in the floor.

    ReplyDelete
  102. The room the spider is in has the entrance you came from and two other exits, also rough tunnels. No other creatures threaten you currently. There isn't a hole in the floor of this room.

The ceiling is covered in webs.

    1. (Can we back out of the room and then burn the webs to see if there is anything up there before we move on?)

  103. Sure, what are you going to use to burn them?

    1. (I have a tinder box and some oil flasks.....could I not cut a small strip of cloth from my clothing, and make a Molotov cocktail? If I then throw it up into the wens it should burn)

  104. Sounds like a plan. I'll assume everyone vacates the room and Caris does as she's described.

It takes a bit for the flames to reach all the webs, but enough eventually burns off that you can see another hole in the roof. (This is the hole the spider came from when Kheldru came into the room.)

  105. (Sorry for the afk for a bit. I'm back, reading to catch up. I'm still at the top holding the rope right?

    ReplyDelete
  106. ((So, with all of the action taking place after I was told to go down the hole, where does that leave me, up or down, fighting or not? Sorry, being out of it got me lost.))

    ReplyDelete
  107. ((Wherever you want. I had offered to hold the rope so you could go down, but I think that was the last of it. No big deal either way, we're up their being awesome or you're on your way to find a bad situation.))

    ReplyDelete
  108. We're out of combat so you guys can go in any order you like now.

  109. Dwos replaced the eponymous Skull in his hand and waited in the hall as the spider's webs burned. Returning to the chamber Dwos bends down and inspects the spider closely to determine if there is anything useful for him on it. ((Not sure if I can use any parts of the spider for spell casting or if it actually has anything on it, or if it can be raised as an undead minion.))

    ReplyDelete
  110. (There aren't any casting components. You might be able to milk the fangs for some venom. It can be raised as a zombie. There's no skeleton so...you know.)
