Underground, The Group Forges Ahead

August 29, in the year 670 by Kingdom reckoning

After some short deliberation, the party continues on down the passage with Draymun in the lead, Ghalen, Kring and Kheldru following and Tom, having retrieved his pole, in the rear carrying a torch.

The passage continues on for 60 feet before making a hard right. Draymun listens closely and hears nothing, he peers around the corner and sees a 15 foot passage that then opens into a large room. Draymun moves forward to stand in the doorway.

The room is 20 by 30 feet and is vaulted, rising to 25 feet in the middle. It is dark but you can make out the shape of old furniture, tapestries hanging from the ceiling and other signs that this was once a richly appointed living space.

To get more information, someone will have to move into the room. I have Draymun standing in the doorway, Ghalen and Kring behind him in the passage then Kheldru and Tom around the corner still.

You estimate it is about 8:30 in the morning.

  1. ((Think we are waiting on Draymun to start since he is the first one))

  2. Anyone wants to go in, they can squeeze past.

  3. Kheldru senses the hesitation of his companions and seizes the moment to push past into the room, determined to get a better look at the surroundings than the back of that smelly dwarfs head.

  4. ((Was with the kiddo and workin' today, ya crazies.))

Draymun moves into the room and begins to search around for anything unusual.

    ((There. :P))

  5. ((Sam for mapping purposes assume I sidestepped to the left after entering to make room for those behind, so I am left of Draymun, just inside the room))

  6. (OOC: No worries Josh, RL trumps internet gaming every time.)

Draymun, is there anything in particular you want to search for or any place you want to search? How much time do you want to spend searching?

    Kheldru, so noted.

  7. ((A general look for anything, particularly light sources for our blind ranger and then maybe a closer look at the tapestries to see if we recognize the family/clan/whatever that used to "live" here.))

  8. (Ghalen will also be checking out the tapestries, looking specifically for any crests or identifying marks

  9. In this room there are iron torch holders set into the wall regularly but there are no torches within.

It is quite obvious that this room has been looted. Furniture is overturned and when you poke it with your weapon the upholstery practically dissolves. Tatters of rugs remain on the floors, some large clay jugs stand in a corner, covered with dust. Dressers and chests stand open or lay in splinters.

You look closely at the tapestries and see more of the knotwork from the floor of the entryway. There is also a crest, a trowel and hammer crossed over a blue circle.

  10. does Ghahlen recognize the crest? (knowledge nobility die roll is a 19

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ghalen recognizes the crest from a history book he might have read in the home of his great grandfather. All he can recall is that it belonged to an ancient house of Dwarves, a powerful house some long time in the past.

Ah yes, there is a door at the far end, opposite the door you entered at.

Anything else you want to take a closer look at? You've only been here for a short time.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Kheldru decides to take a closer look at the walls behind the tapestrys to check the stonework for signs of secret doors and looks into the barrels to see what is within.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Kheldru spends 10 minutes or so tapping on each section of wall and checking the cracks for secret doors. He doesn't find any.

There are 5 clay jugs that are still relatively intact. 4 of them are sealed with wax and slosh when you move them. The 5th is also sealed with wax but jingles when moved.

  14. Do Kring or Tom want to do anything while the rest of the party turns this room over?

    ReplyDelete
  15. ((Kring wants to smash the bottles, hoping there's booze... Let's take a vote that this is a bad idea.))

    ReplyDelete
  16. You have some clay jugs, a mysterious crest, an empty room that's been ransacked and a door waiting to be opened.

    What says the party?

    ReplyDelete
  17. "Enough dwarfing around. There's nothing here that gets me out of here. " Kring walks across the room to look at the door.

    ReplyDelete
  18. ((I thought Kring was smashing the jugs? I was waiting to see what happened.))

    ReplyDelete
  19. (OOC: Since he put it in parenthesis I assumed it was an Out of Character comment.)

Kring, the door is wooden, bound with iron. It is shut and shows no signs of forced entry or exit.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Tom begins to search the room for the tracks of the lost brother.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It's quite the jumble in the messed up room but in the accumulated dust you can clearly identify both sets of tracks leading to and away from the chests and dressers and around other parts of the room.

Kring has scuffed up things near the door a bit but you can tell someone went through it.

  22. ((thanks for assuming I wasn't asleep during this whole time and giving me the benefit of the doubt, I apologize to the rest of the group, I wasn't notified that comments were going up, so I figured we had stalled, my bad))

Tom begins examining the door for traps, muttering "Fool me once..."

    ReplyDelete
  23. You don't see anything that would indicate a trapped door.

(No worries, I just assume if the Player isn't doing anything the Character is just following along with no input. Since the group hasn't moved on, I'm fine with you having something to do during the time Kheldru is searching. Even if it happens "retroactively.")

    ReplyDelete
  24. ((I'm satisfied with our searching. Pie, if you want to point us in the right direction, I say we all move alone. You can even lead with a light, if you'd like. *grin*))

    ReplyDelete
  25. Tom turns to his companions, "Doesn't look like the door is trapped, but I am not expert. The tracks lead this way. Based on our experience, I'd rather have light than to stumble in the dark. If one of you would like to hold a light, I don't mind leading us off, that way if the tracks take us one way on an intersection I'll see them.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I will carry your light friend, lead well.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Before Kheldru follows Tom he sets himself up to pretend to accidentally knock over the nearest jug, the one with the different noise to it. Furitively glancing about to see if the others noticed it was a purposeful action he calmly presses forth, secure with the fact that even if they do chastise his actions it will be worth it to satisfy his innate curiousity.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The jug tips, rolls forward and shatters. Silver coins spill out of the busted top and a single red gem rolls down the pile of coins. All told you find 370 silver pieces and a ruby the size of a child's fist that the dwarves easily estimate is worth 50 gold pieces.

    ReplyDelete
  29. (I have a bad feeling this campaign is going to turn into a legend of Zelda game with you guys busting up every clay pot you come across now.)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Kheldru scoops up the coins quickly and divides them among the group as evenly as possible, promising to divide up the proceeds from the gem once they return to town. Lighting the torch for Tom and holding it aloft, Kheldru returns to standing near the stalwart hunter. "No sense why we shouldn't profit from this adventure eh?" Kheldru remarks with a mischievous grin quickly spreading across his face. "Now, let's see if we can't discover what lies behind this door!"

    ReplyDelete
  31. ((I'll lead off, but I'd like everyone to post that they are ready before we move on. That okay Sam?))

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes, that's fine. Draymun, Kring and Kheldru have all expressed interest in moving on so I'll start a new post shortly.

    ReplyDelete
  33. (If Ghalen wants to do any more investigation of the room, we can assume he does so retroactively.)
