You walk in the dark, Draymun in the lead. Kheldru follows behind, having recovered his mace. This passage is also five feet wide and covered in worked stone. You idly consider the craftsmanship and know that it is first rate and must have taken years. When you have gone about 40 feet down the passage you notice ahead of you a barely perceivable change in the pattern of the stone blocks on both sides of the wall.
What would you like to do?
((Reviewing and updating my character sheet, then I'll post. Apparently I didn't properly update my post with some of my information, so I need to do that before I press on.))
ReplyDelete((Is there a knowledge check either of us can make to find out more about the change in stone!))
ReplyDeleteNot really, the "knowledge check" was the fact that you're a dwarf and you notice such things. To find out more about it, you'd have to interact with it. Pour water on it, poke it with a stick, step on it, move closer and look at it, hit it with a chisel. Stuff like that.
ReplyDelete"This change in the stone has me intrigued, maybe we should move ahead a little further and see what else lies beyond? Let's move quickly and quietly though, I would rather we find something before it finds us." Kheldru pulls out his sword and moves his potions and silver sheen to the top of his bag for ready use.
ReplyDelete"Sounds fine to me, let's press on. With all respect to our Ranger friend, we should make better time in the dark."
ReplyDeleteDraymun keeps his hammer slung over his shoulder, ready for use.
You walk forward down the passage, watching the walls. Nothing happens.
ReplyDeleteShortly after the change in pattern, you see down the dark hall an open vault door.
Kheldru creeps forward as quietly as possible nearer to the open vault door and peers into the vault as best as he can from ten feet from the entrance. Looking and listening intently for anything out of place Kheldru awaits confirmation that the path ahead is safe.
ReplyDeleteDraymen keeps keen eyes looking about as he follows Kheldru on his approach to the vault, carefully attempting to notice anything strange or malicious on the floors and walls.
ReplyDeleteKheldru is the pinnacle of silence (DM rolls 20) as he approaches the vault door. It is a thick thing, made of some sort of metal Kheldru doesn't immediately recognize.
ReplyDeleteHe can see blades, exposed in the door frame. As if someone has already been here and deactivated a trap.
The vault itself is empty but for a pedestal in the center and two humanoid forms: a male, human, judging by his height and build, cloaked in black, and a female, slender and tall, swathed in earthy browns and greens. They are standing perfectly still, looking at the pedestal, the male's hand reaching out.
((Do we notice anything on the pedestal?))
ReplyDeleteAre you moving up to Kheldru's position?
ReplyDeleteEither way, you can't make anything out without moving closer.
(("Draymen keeps keen eyes looking about as he follows Kheldru on his approach to the vault, carefully attempting to notice anything strange or malicious on the floors and walls." was my earlier post, I was following him. Okay.))
ReplyDeleteDraymun whispers, so as not to alarm the extra bodies.
"I can't get a good look at anything in there. Should we sneak in or fall back?"
(Many apologies, I missed the word follows.)
ReplyDeleteKheldru reaches to his belt and takes out the still warm potion of enlarge person, pouring the copper colored substance down his throat in one large gulp. The taste is a mix of Ogre hide and the Viagran plant... A sort of blue hued flower common throughout low lying lands near rushing waters. Immediately the power of the potion seizes hold of Kheldru's body, snapping bones and ripping flesh before mending both anew... larger and stronger. Letting forth a titanic howl of glee and rage Kheldru leaps the five feet to the vault door, quickly stepping inside and to the left of the passageway and demands that the two lay down their arms and proclaim who they are, what they are doing here and their intentions in this evil place.... All the while brandishing his sword in one hand and mace in the other. (mace will be thrown using throw anything feet, I do not plan on using both ala dual weilding)
ReplyDeleteThey stand perfectly still, apparently frozen in place. You can now clearly see what it was on the pedestal the human is touching.
ReplyDeleteIt is a round, flat object (hockey puck size and shape), made of gold or perhaps brass, consisting of concentric rings behind a glass front. You might think of it as a cross between a compass, a clock and a gyroscope.
