Early Morning, August 30 670 by Kingdom Reckoning
I rule that since Tom is still standing on the ground at the head of the onslaught (and his Dex is higher than Thorvald's) that the party will go on his initiative.
Party Roll: 10+4 = 14
Swarms Roll: 6+5 = 11
The party may take another turn.
Twiggy's Inspire Courage begins this round so you all add 1 to your hit and damage. Note that Twiggy can only take one additional action this round since he started singing.
Tom drops his sword and draws his warhammer and attacks the swarm in front of him. Swinging with both hands. (I am Pi on the map now, so the one to the left of me.)
ReplyDelete(9+4+1=14; damage if hits 8+3+1)
That is a hit! As a heap of rats boils up, threatening to engulf your shins, your hammer crashes down and smashes many rats.
DeleteRayla turns the mule and rides to Shade. Pulling a torch out of her pack she lights it on Shade's lantern.
ReplyDeleteBolstered by Twiggy's support, Thorvald turns toward the nearest rat swarm with nothing but rage behind his eyes. Pulling back to one side, Thunor's Vengeance swept across the nearest mischief leaving a swath of devastation in it's wake.

(I'm working off of the assumption that Tom and Thor are hitting the same swarm. If that's in error, let me know.)
DeleteYour mighty attack cuts another devastating swath of rats down but the swarm surges forward again to fill in the gap left by your blade.
Draymun leans over the side of Kumo and swings his hammer down, bringing it crashing down among the rats. There is a great squeal and the swarm disperses, leaving a great pile of rat corpses.
ReplyDeleteShade's spell goes off without a hitch but the rats seem unaffected by it. You can move back to your starting position without trouble.
ReplyDelete(Rat save 15+2 = 17)
The final swarm of rats moves forward and avoids swarming Tom in favor of swarming into and about the two tents pitched. They chew through the thin fabric easily and begin digging among the packs, sacks and barrels for what food is laying unattended.
ReplyDeleteAt the same moment, you hear a rumbling sound coming from the Northwest, like great amounts of dirt being moved.

DeleteWas it your intention to ignite the tents? There is only one rat swarm and it's in and among the tents to the south.

ReplyDeleteEvery round, the stores will "take damage" meaning every round some food is destroyed. If you wade into the swarm, you'll take damage but you can save some of the stores.
DeleteYou can modify your post however you'd like.

DeleteNo problem! Now's as good a time as any to ask questions about the swarm.
DeleteThorvald charged after the final mischief with unbridled rage in his eyes. He brought his mighty blade up high, holding it for only a moment, before allowing gravity to aid him in dropping the mighty weapon upon the swarming rats.

Your attack cuts a swathe through the rats but some remain.
DeleteFollowing Thorvald, Tom rushes to the new rat swarm but trips and falls over one of the tent ropes.
ReplyDelete((rolled a 1, so if you need me to make another roll I can. Can't recall how you handle 1s.))
(Give me a d20 roll please, for the fumble table.)
Delete((5))
DeleteAs Tom slips, he loses control of his weapon and it crunches into Thorvald's knee, dealing regular damage.
Delete(I'll let you roll it since I'm not sure I have the right Tom blog on here.)
((rolled a 1, normal for the warhammer is d8. I have a +2 str mod, so not sure on that, plus Inspire Courage. So yeah, could be 1 or 4 or something in between))
DeleteThorvald takes an arrow in the knee and shouts, "I used to be an adventurer, and then I took an arrow in the knee."
Delete(Glad I asked. First reply of this post you did 8+3+1? So that would be 1+3+1 damage to Thorvald, or 1+2+1?)
ReplyDelete((Oh, I was using both hands, so 1.5 strength bonus, isn't that correct?)
Delete(Isn't a warhammer a 1 handed weapon?)
ReplyDelete(Edit: In the rules it's listed as a one handed weapon. I think in the real world, they could have long hafts and be wielded two-handed. If you did that though, I think you'd have to have an Exotic Weapon Proficiency just like with the bastard sword, no?)
(Turns out using a one handed weapon two handed is supported by the rules.)
DeleteThor takes 5 points of damage from Tom's slip.
Rayla watches in horror as Tom's warhammer slams into Thorvauld's leg. She nudges the mule towards him seeing only the wound and its effects. Before the mule can move she looks around and realizes that others are waiting and pulls the reins.
ReplyDeleteDraymun guides Kumo toward the remaining mischief while attempting to scatter the remaining rats with his hammer, and prevent further damage to the supplies.
ReplyDelete(( Attack Role (Warhammer) 1d20+4: 10 + 4 + 1 (Twiggy) + 1 (Height) = 16 ))
(( Damage Role (Warhammer) 1d8+3: 7 + 3 + 1 (Twiggy) = 11 ))
Rayla sends her healing waves toward the party refreshing them before the next attack.
